What is Platinum (XPT)?
Platinum is a rare noble metal with a silvery-white colour, traded under the ticker XPT. It is 30 times rarer than gold in the Earth's crust. Platinum is exceptionally resistant to corrosion with a high melting point of 1,768 °C.
Platinum applications
The main consumer of platinum is the automotive industry: about 40% of all mined platinum goes into catalytic converters. Jewellery accounts for roughly 30%. The remainder is used in chemical industry, medicine and electronics.
Platinum and the hydrogen economy
Platinum plays a key role in hydrogen energy. It serves as a catalyst in fuel cells that convert hydrogen into electricity. As interest in green hydrogen grows, long-term demand for platinum may increase significantly.
Why invest in platinum?
Platinum historically traded above gold, but in recent years its price has been significantly lower. Many analysts consider platinum an undervalued asset. Limited mining geography (mainly South Africa) and growing industrial demand create conditions for price growth.
